As a Radiologic Technician, this concern may be on your patient's mind as well as a topic discussed at work. Tell the interviewer a bit about the pro's and cons when it comes to an MRI or CT scan.
Written by Ryan Brown on December 20th, 2020"MRI's may be preferred over a CT scan by the provider simply because of the amount of radiation exposure with CT scans."
Written by Ryan Brown on December 20th, 2020"MRI's are sometimes preferred over CT scans because of the ability to scan certain soft tissue tumors unlike a CT scan."
Written by Heather Douglass"MRI shows soft tissue a lot better than CT and is usually preferred over CT when looking at non-bony structural damage. It also has a lot of lower dosage than CT."
Great! Again, another question focused on your fundamental knowledge. The idea is that the easier you can explain these concepts, the better you understand them :)
Talk to the hiring manager a little bit about yourself that steps outside of your medical education and work history. This is an opportunity for you to show them a bit about your personality. Circle your answer back to how this skill or experience will benefit you in this role.
Written by Ryan Brown on December 20th, 2020"Something about me that many do not know is that I was a competitive dancer for many years. Despite it being unrelated to medicine, it truly did teach me about discipline and dedication."
Written by Ryan Brown on December 20th, 2020"My resume doesn't capture the amount of time that I volunteer within the community. Besides the medical field, "‹my passion is with animals. I volunteer at our local animal shelter every weekend."
Written by Heather Douglass"I have a strong music background starting in my childhood and even played in my university band on the clarinet. During my time in the band, I learned a lot about discipline to work on my craft and work as a unit towards a common goal."
Excellent! This type of question will allow the interviewer to get to know you outside of your resume and work credentials. You do an excellent job tying this information back into your professional work.
Difficult patients will show up in your day every now and then. Tell the hiring manager how you deal with difficult patients.
Written by Ryan Brown on December 20th, 2020"I give difficult patients the same care that I give cooperative patients. I find that patients that refuse X-rays generally are anxious about the scan and just need their mind put at ease and their questions answered."
Written by Ryan Brown on December 20th, 2020"I would first ask the patient if they had any questions. I've found that by listening to the patient I can determine why they are refusing care."
Written by Heather Douglass"First, I give difficult patients the same care that I give cooperative patients. I find that patients refuse x-ray or scan are anxious about the exam and just need their mind put at ease and their questions answered."
You provided a great perspective that will be well-received with an interviewer. I provided some alternate wording to enhance your message.
"In my experience, patients refuse x-rays or scans due to anxiety or fear of the unknown. When faced with a nervous or reluctant client, I offer as much information I can about the exam. Typically, patients' minds are more at ease, and they are more willing to participate."
Show More Answers Anonymous Answer"Often patients who refuse x-rays are just anxious, so clearly outlining what I will be doing helps calm their nerves."
You make a valid point! If you needed to calm the nerves of a patient, what would your approach be? This question is another opportunity to give a story-example of a 'time when' you did this.
Word travels fast when you are looking for employment. Hopefully you made a good impression with your current employer and they will say a few kind words about your work ethic if called on as a reference. Tell the interviewer about your professional work relationship with your past employer.
Written by Ryan Brown on December 20th, 2020"My former employer would describe me as one that led by example in the department. I made a point to always be on time, assist my co-workers and treat each patient with dignity while maintaining my professionalism."
Written by Heather Douglass"My informer employer described me as a on time person with high responsibility, so does need to assist her co-workers and treats each patient with dignity."
Great start; it's great to convey your previous employer's feedback regarding your work ethic and interpersonal skills. I reworded your answer a bit for clarity and flow.
"My former employer has provided positive feedback on my performance and patient care. I have been described as a highly reliable, helpful, and patient-focused employee. I go above and beyond to ensure patients are treated with dignity and respect."
Show More Answers Anonymous Answer "They would describe me as quiet but hard working."Nice start! Do you have any examples that showcase these qualities? It's a good idea to take an interview response like this one from just 'telling' to 'show and tell.' :)
The compensation question can be very difficult to answer. It's always best to start with what you are currently earning and then discuss what your future compensation goals look like.
Written by Ryan Brown on December 20th, 2020"Currently, I am earning 55K per year. I'd like to stay in this salary range. What range are you offering for this position?"
Written by Ryan Brown on December 20th, 2020"After researching the average salary for this location it seems that my current salary of 60K is quite comparable"‹."
Written by Heather Douglass"According to my T4, I received around __k last year. Depending on the position I take (full time or part-time), I'd want equal or higher pay. What range are you offering?"
This is a pretty good start! Although you are not required to disclose your salary, it's often helpful to give the hiring company a baseline. If you'd like more information on discussing salary, we have an article here:How to Discuss Salary in a Job Interview.
The interviewer wants to know what you bring to the table as a successful Radiologic Technologist. Tell the interviewer what sets you apart from the rest. Not sure what skills, work experience or characteristics to share? Ask your co-workers what they feel is the one unique thing that makes you a great person to work with.
Written by Ryan Brown on December 20th, 2020"I would bring my knowledge, skills, and passion to this job. My life's work has been caring for others and I look forward to the opportunity to care for others here."

Written by Heather Douglass View This Question and AnswersWhen answering this question you will want to give a specific example of a situation when you had to work under pressure. Explain the strategies you used to successfully get through it. Keep your answer short and relevant and relay the information calmly.
Written by Ryan Brown on December 20th, 2020"I tend to thrive under pressure because it forces me to really focus on what I'm doing, assess my priorities, and come up with a plan. Rather than quickly reacting, I try to stop and collect my thoughts, remain calm, and envision a positive outcome."
Written by Ryan Brown on December 20th, 2020"I actually work better under pressure and I've found that I enjoy working in a challenging environment."
Written by Heather Douglass"I deal with stressful situations everyday at work as a server lead. Stress helps me focus and problem solve. One time at work we had a power outage in the middle of our rush hour, our manager was panicking about the situation. I stepped up and communicated to her with my idea and we quickly figured out a way to solve the problem. I announced that idea to my coworkers from different departments ways to keep our guests informed and how we can process payments manually to our guests. Everyone remained calm and efficiently solve the problem. Stress helps me think out of the box and efficiently solve problems. And it's a new learning experience every time I overcome it."
This is a great example on working under pressure. Now, try to relate this ability to work under pressure to your role as a Radiologic Tech.

Stress helps me think out of the box, and it's a new learning experience every time I overcome a difficult challenge. I am eager to apply this same approach to stress management in my role as a radiologic tech; whether it be with rush reporting, long hours, upset patients, or situations around being short staffed."
Show More Answers Anonymous Answer"If I take the time to take a step back and breathe, I can come up with a plan to do things how I want them to go."
A helpful method for working under pressure, indeed! To fill out your response and show this in action, do you have a story example of a time when you took this approach in the workplace?
Now is your time to get answers to your questions that have come up based on your grueling interview. Steer clear of salary, benefits and other questions that might make you sound pushy or that you are trying to negotiate the terms of a job that hasn't been offered to you yet. Take this time to clarify questions of what hours you will be working, what type of patients they see most of and why the interviewer enjoys working for this hospital.
